DISTRACTIONS

It's the underlying mindset of the freelance writer - possibly the freelance anything; the inability to say 'no' to work. Or, indeed, too much else. So, just when i'm knocking off my last bits of work for Conde Nast and Outsider Magazine and about to put my laptop into hibernation for the summer i get an offer to write the text for a coffee-table style book on horses in South America. It's a subject i know quite a bit about and so all the info and the passion and the ideas are at my fingertips, but i'm all geared to start paddling. Yes? No? Do it and have a few more quid in my ditty bag, as well as good done-work feeling but lose a few days, or a week. Or say no and probably still be hanging around for a week before heading off? The long range weather forecast is still unsettled, and so like very many things - important things - in the coming weeks i suspect that the state of the weather is going to settle what i do next. Bugger it, i'll probably just say yes.
